Daniel Gregory Robertson was a hitman with the organised crime in NYC. Dan knew he had powers when he reached puberty. He just happenned to be spotted by Hu Tse's crew first. He didn't know better, he got himself in more trouble than he should have. Eventually, when asked to kill one of his best friend, he refused. Hu Tse was not joking with these sort of things. Rather than kill Dan, he arranged for his wife and daughter to die in an accident. Dan's wife died in a gaz oven explosion accident, but his daughter, got lucky and only got blinded by the shrapnels. She unveiled her powers after that, probably because of the trauma. Dan pledge his life to God after that and forgave Hu Tse. However, he will do whatever it takes to protect his proteges. He decided to help other helpless mutants and started a christian based religion, it's called the Guiding Light of the Kingdom.

During a trip to South America, adopted a young man, a refugee, the Kid was alone in a refugee camp. As it turned out, the Kid's whole village was attacked by revolutionary terrorists. His family was killed but he was left for dead under a pile of cadavers. When he woke up after the attack, he panicked, and started to scream. His scream was so strong that it killed whoever was left alive in the vicinity. He rarely speaks since then. Lately, Dan has been hanging out with a team of heroes from another dimension. Just as he thought things would be getting better, he received new, by the mouth of Hunter, the bounty hunter that Hu Tse had put a price on his head. Dan cut one of his fingers off for Hunter to send back to Hu Tse, hoping to avoid an unecessary confrontation. Meanwhile, while Dan was away a group attacked the strip mall and killed Dan's daughter. The Kid, panicked once again and started screaming, repainting the walls red.

Dan now mourns his daugther, lays low, and will seek revenge and redemption, as The Crusader.
